Today I.....

You will destroy the number plate lights removing the screws if they are rusty. You can try a good hot soldering iron on the screw head if it transmits enough heat through the screw to melt the ABS housing then the screws may come out

After taking my car to a local garage yesterday with the intention of having it MOTd (no point, it would fail over the heavy steering) they think it could be the "support Pump" under the reservoir.
I doubt it has been VCDS scanned, but I can do. Would VCDS pick that up?

Hi Paul, I suspected as much. Theres one on each light that I can loosen but the other two are solid and whoever tried it previously has totally rounded the heads :-(

Cheers Dave

It’s a common issue as steel screws not stainless steel screws were used
The soldering iron trick as worked for me in the past

I just had a computer item that needed opening and the screw heads were all rounded [I bought it new/open box and got a refund and was told to dispose of the item, so I thought it worth a go]. I found a small drill bit made more progress though a risk of the bit snapping. Doing it in a vertical drill stand helped. After about an hour's work I had drilled out the centre of the 4 screw heads so they came off, and then I got the lid off. There was then just enough screw threads left poking up to use long nose pliers to twist them out.

You could try it if you find no other solution but it will be more difficult holding the drill by hand and holding it upwards.

Thanks Alan, I'm not in any rush at the moment but will try and drill the 2 stuborn screws. Theyre really corroded so Im hoping they're pretty soft!!

If you twist off the screws there is info in the forum how a member with broken screws fixed it i have done the same, 8mm diamond holesaw 124449670091 and 202776653954 Rawl Nuts M4 x 12mm 8mm OD on e bay, Drill out the broken screw with the hole saw and bond in the rawl nut,

Morning all,

Today I… Received my new low profile trolley jack:

Guess I’ll be outside during the lunch break to fit the brilliant jacking point bungs produced by Chris @Proximo that recently arrive.

Kind regards,

Tom

I've just received my jacking point bungs from @Proximo as well so no doubt our updates are going to be similar Tom!

I already have a low profile, high-lift trolley jack with wide cup, luckily.
Afternoon David,

Yes the very same update to come later on for sure. Very happy with both the Jack and bungs.

Kind regards,

Tom

Handed over “Bluey” to its new owner @sixerj always a pleasure when another more capable enthusiast picks up the reins (in-between Porsche 914-6 restoration duties)!

Now down to just the 1x 6-speed dolphin grey FSI, that only wants for headlamp washers and a headlining + OSS service.

Evening all,

Today I… Got the Volico paint out.

Remember this Swing Rear Cup Holder:

That was stripped down as per this thread:

And ended receiving a bit more Soul:

Well it was dismantled earlier today for another round of Volico paint:

This time with a little Twist:

Who doesn’t absolutely love a factory fresh looking Twist Rear Cup Holder!

So I guess the question is why did I do this when I already have a Twist Rear Cup Holder in the Project OEM A2 and a Soul (used to be Swing) Rear Cup Holder in the Project EUD A2, well whilst recently visiting Neil @nee777.a2 for the tailgate swap I noticed that he had a Twist interior with a Soul Rear Cup Holder and rather liked the idea of having it painted to match the remainder of his lovely interior.

We had a chat and concluded that I might as well have the factory Soul item and I paint the item I have previously dismantled and recolour it Twist for him. He has a fresh looking item in the colour he wants and I have an aged Soul coloured item to match the age of the remainder of my Soul interior. Win win all round I think.

I’m sure Neil will be very happy with the outcome of this this evenings task when he receives it tomorrow.

Kind regards,

Tom
Never knew these elusive items were designed to be removeable for when you fold down the rear seats.
Now, I want some!!!

What 6 speed do you have in the FSI?

Evening Phil,

These are quite elusive as you say but they do present themselves from time to time. You have to be awfully quick though as they get spoken for within seconds.

Good luck on the search.

Kind regards,

Tom

You might be in luck. I happen to have a spare on the shelf (with all the mounts) that I’d consider letting go.
Wow Erling.

I usually have the odd spare but done thing I’ve ever had a spare Rear Cup Holder. I’m sure if Phil doesn’t take it then there will be a long list behind him haha.

Kind regards,

Tom
