Today I.....

Evening Phil,

These are quite elusive as you say but they do present themselves from time to time. You have to be awfully quick though as they get spoken for within seconds.

Good luck on the search.

Kind regards,

Tom

They are great, though a safety point I would make is that if you fit and then remove them, remember to reinstate the screws holding the seat brackets in - easy to overlook!

You might be in luck. I happen to have a spare on the shelf (with all the mounts) that I’d consider letting go.
Erm, wow. Ponders....
I have had to book my car into the Audi specialist Wheelbase to get my front wishbones fitted. The OSF ball joint needs doing kinda urgently now. My drive is out of action, and Ami has bene rather busy, and coupled with my 4 on/off rota at work has made it hard to get to him.
Which i need to, to show him the Immortal death pipe.

It’s a standard 5 speed box with a sixth added, the work being done (in previous ownership) by a German contractor to A2 Cars in Milton Keynes.

More details on another thread; I’ve no idea when the last FSI conversion was but probably disappeared along with A2 Cars..

I’ve got the sixth gear added onto a 75Tdi that Tony did for his wife

Interested in the thread for sure!

IIRC AT still have twist rear cup holders. I have not checked recently though!
Hi Simon,

Looks like Audi Tradition have nothing left in either colour now:

Hello all,

Today I… Finally refitted the rear window trim panel after the well documented tailgate swap a couple of weeks ago.

Not before putting metal coat hanger through the long rubber grommet/weather shield:

To get this wire through:

After 30 minutes it was finally through after a few failed attempts. Glad I don’t have to do this particular task daily:

Cable pretty much in place to refit the trim panels:

All back together:

That’s a Nextbase 522GW with rear dashcam all fitted. Very happy with an hours tinkering in the cold outdoors.

Kind regards,

Tom

Some work continues with brake hose replacement. When changing the front ones I broke the wear sensor plug on the front left wheel on the harness side. I ordered a replacement on ebay for about £5 and after a little bit of messing around I had it repaired.

Hi Tom, sorry for off topic question but: Are your boot struts new ones and if so are they assisted/self opening. My wife and daughters find the A2 hatch quite hard to open alll the way and I was wondering if there were "upgraded" struts available?
Cheers Dave

Hello Dave,

The Stabilus 8413HV were supposed to be a replacement for the A3 and A4 tailgate which is heavier and therefore are a slight upgrade over original. I know many many members are running these now and I have absolutely no complaints about them.

I cannot remember the eject force of the factory A2 tailgate struts but these Stabilus items have an eject force of 420n. They assist the tailgate to open easily whilst not flying up to take your chin off and they don't judder at full stretch which other upgrade tailgate struts cause. They are a smooth operation both opening and closing. My 2 youngsters have no issue opening or closing the boot.

If you're having issue opening the boot then it does sound like its time for a pair of new struts. Just confirm that your spoiler isn't full of weather causing it to be heavier the it should be.

Kind regards,

Tom

Hi Tom, thanks for comprehensive reply :) I'll invest in a set of those in the near future. What do you mean by the spoiler being full of weather? Is it possible for water to get inside it? I dont think it has but is there an easy way to check?
Cheers Dave

Hi Dave,

Some members have reported that their spoiler fills with water ofter a good down poor and drill small holes on the underside to release it. The best way to check is quickly raise and lower the tailgate and you should then be able to hear the water splashing around inside.

Ive not suffered from this yet so no expert on it unfortunately.

Kind regards,

Tom

Thanks Tom, no there's no sound of water in the spoiler when I move it quickly up/down, so I assume the current struts are just weak as they look old enough to be original.

Hi Dave,

That’s what I suspect Sir. Don’t drill the holes unless you absolutely need to. Always check for water first.

A fresh set of tailgate struts will be night and day I promise. Your wife and daughters will certainly appreciate the minimal funds they cost once fitted.

Kind regards,

Tom

Better than expected, £22 plus delivery on Autodoc for the pair. Can't complain at that 👍😁

Hi Dave,

Yes they’re great for the price. I’ve had them on the Project OEM A2 for a couple of years with the heavier Votex style spoiler and they’re just fine. They’re also a quarter of the price of a factory set for the dealers. Well worth the £22 I’d suggest.

Kind regards.

Tom

Avoid the more powerful one that rise up on unlocking as there were posts in the past of A2 bodies cracking around the hinges. I still have the original struts from 20 years ago and the tail gate opens fully once it has been given a little nudge upwards.
