Forum Update Today

I like the clean look of the new site, but at the moment, I feel like a kid in a new school and I don't know where anything is or what most things do.

That's what nearly 15 years of muscle memory will do to you!

As a software engineer myself, I am impressed with this new software. It's been well thought out, and architecturally is quite elegant. And for those who are interested, it was built by some of the lead developers from the original Jelsoft vBulletin (before the company was purchased by Internet Brands in 2007, and vBulletin took a downward turn). Sadly Internet Brands used their legal weight to bring a copyright infringement lawsuit against XenForo, who eventually settled for an undisclosed sum. This cost this small startup - but they are now leading the pack with this new release. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XenForo.

One of the most useful [tags] on vBulletin was the [POST=... tag which would enable a link with just the post number. Is there a similar one hidden within the Xenforo codes anywhere. I had a look, but couldn't see anything.

Hi Ben, i've noticed that a few pages that i've found when searching on google are coming up with 404 errors. is this just while site is migrating or simply they have been removed or archived?

Great work though, forum is nice to use.

If you click the link to the far right of an old thread in a forum (shown as a date) this will take you to the last post straight away.

Then it's a case of scrolling upwards instead of down for the older posts in the thread.

Having been part of implementing 100s of S/w upgrades and/or migrations to completely new applications/programs it is quite normal to feel like a kid in a new school and I should think that almost if not everyone on here is feeling the same.

Thanks Vonnie - that's a workaround I suppose. I much prefer the option to view threads in reverse order though.

And, how do I remove the VAG Com member title and revert to the Co-owner one please?

Do you have any examples? Not all the redirects are in place right now. We've not removed anything.

There's no option in XenForo to show posts in reverse chronological order (and indeed the vendor has descoped it a while ago - https://xenforo.com/community/threads/reverse-chronological-order-for-thread-view.13976/). I'll keep an eye out for add-ons that might provide similar functionality.

I've removed the VAG Com Member title. Note that there's no longer a Co-owner group title.

Hi Ben, is there an option to have more options on the photo sizes rather than just BIG or small ...? I particularly liked the "Medium" option on the old one (Have I annoyed you enough yet with the customisation options?) :)

Thanks. I see ULP posted yesterday with that title, so it still exists. And I am a co-owner, like you (or did you chip in your share?).

Ahh, I see you've modified Chris's title now. Doesn't change the situation though.
ULP had the Moderator title - which was incorrect as he's no longer a moderator, and the fallback was to his former custom title when the migration occurred. I've rebuilt the caches to get everything back in line.

Good question Paul

PS Aah, all messages, sent and received, appear to be in Conversations, like the Messages app on iOS. That does jar with the Inbox taskbar icon
Yes the 'inbox' title is less than intuitive as there are both in and out messages in there, lets call it a 'feature' and live with it :)
cheers,
