Today I fitted the 3D-printed bezel Mk 1. to complete my CarPlay conversion.
Big thanks to @depronman for the printing and to @timmus for the dash conversion to double DIN.
I'll do a follow up blog post later on the details of the fit, but couldn't resist showing off the current state of play.
Next steps will be a surface finish for the fascia bezel and some correction to the fit with a Dremel. I'm already measuring and planning for what a Mk 2. bezel will be.

How fiddly was it to remove?Cleaned the throttle body today, it was really caked in carbon and other oil bits, I don't think it's ever been removed let alone cleaned before.

Just waiting for the new gasket to arrive and I'll put it back together. Hopefully it will make a difference now all the clogged breather holes are unblocked.
Very easy to be fair, first unclip the air feed pipe at the top left of the engine, then unscrew the mounting point in the middle of the same pipe (this allows the pipe to move once the last clip is done), unscrew the clip on the right of the pipe that attaches to the TB, then unscrew the 4 bolts that attach the TB to the engine and pull apart. I also removed the piece between the TB and engine that has a metal pipe attached by two bolts and a rubber hose connected with a clip, that way I was able to clean the holes that feed into each pipe that were clogged with carbon. Only thing to remember is order a new gasket. How fiddly was it to remove?
Oh great, is it a major issue or is it something that can wait until our trip to the camping social?Good work Mark. You may find that the car will need the thottle body adaption to be done with vcds after fitting. The car has adapted to the dirty throttle body and so the new parameters of a clean one may throw the engine managemnt system off.
Thanks Steve, I do appreciate the heads up, for warned is for armed. Sorry if my message came across off hand mate it wasn't my intention. All you can do is fit it and see. There's no guarantee you'll get problems, but if its gone from a particularly dirty TB to a super clean one, then it can happen. The car may idle irratically or not idle at all. It just needs time to learn the parametres of the butterfly of the throttle again. If its done via VCDS then you can use the car straight away, if it doesn't want to idle right you can do it manually by taking it through the rev range over a period of time.
I'm just telling you so if it does happen when you refit it, you didn't worry you'd done something wrong.
Can I do this with a registered VCDS Lite?Good work Mark. You may find that the car will need the thottle body adaption to be done with vcds after fitting. The car has adapted to the dirty throttle body and so the new parameters of a clean one may throw the engine managemnt system off.
