Today I.....

....decided to push the boat out and have my 3sdm wheels powder coated. They had picked up a few kerb marks since I first painted them around 6 months ago. I've never been 100% happy with the finish so have decided to go down the professional route. There's a powder coaters 10 mimutes away from me that does all four wheels for £160 and has very good reviews. Time will tell.

no guesses for what I have been doing over the weekend - the pictures tell the story

numerous scuffs and hold paint touch ups need sorting out, so also took the opportunity to colour code the black to the silver of the A2. Will also need to spray the sill covers and the trims at the bottom of the doors (do these come off the doors easily - I hope so)

I just like the look of the A2 without the black at the bottom of the car, personally I think it looks more modern without the black.

The bumpers and arches will be left to cure properly for a good few days, they are painted in two pack clear over base

If you mean the trims at the very bottom part of the door (triangular profile?). They are just held on with two small screws on each door, plus some double sided sticky stuff that is often not really stick still.

I have the black stuff painted body colour (white) on mine and I agree it does seem to lift the car and even looks a little like it has a Votex kit fitted (from a distance). I am current having it done to my wife's silver A2 Due to be finished today.

I definitely agree.

Of course not everyone will, but to me it is a great way to personalise your A2.

On her silver one we we are basically having to do it because I have stolen her Votex kit ready to put it on mine (used to be her's) and the marks left behind by the kit had to be sorted anyway.

Today I had the paintless dent repair guy that I use take a couple of annoying little dinks out of the passenger door on my Lupo. He's done a perfect job so its now waiting for the 11th August where its booked in for a full machine polish at a local detailers. Then I really ought to turn my attention back to the A2 sat in my garage.....:)

......fitted an Xcarlink interface that was lying in the garage for couple of years. Fitted as per photo

This was inspired by Timmus, he did it same way I think.
Tested and working fine, now I need a Bluetooth module for it and I'm still trying to decide where to put the iPhone so it's not in the way of cool air and not in the sun.

Are you creating a silver storm Paul....

Not really a storm, more an 'All Silver' A2, similar idea to Steve B's white A2, but in silver

I just think the black bottom to the car (bumpers, sill covers etc) make the car look a little older than it needs to, changing the black to the body colour of the A2 makes it look younger.
Being honest I was going to do this on my other A2 TDI, but it is very dark blue and the black does not stand out anywhere as much as it does on the Silver TDI.

I still in two minds what to do with the service flap, leave it polished black, or spray it silver (like A2steve did) and spray the Audi logo black. My Silver TDI as working opensky so the roof is all glass, should look quite striking when done silver from the ground to the roof which is then all black glass

Cheers,

Thanks Steve door bottom rubbing strips removed. Is there a preferred method for reattachment once I have sprayed them ?

After some weird shaking behavior did change the drive shaft joint with the gearbox and the rubber protection on the joint with the wheel on the passenger side.
Also changed the oil and filters.
Car feels so much better now and accelerates faster.

...went to pick up my newly powdercoated alloys. I was as excited as a kid at christmas. Unfortunately it was wasted because they had done an awful job. For starters they were in the wrong colour, they had runs dimples and scores in the powdercoat. I had to refuse to accept them and I've given them another chance to rectify it :-(

OMG, that is a shocker, I know how you would feel.

It's not the end of the world as long as they do it properly next time. They have been established for 25 years and are the biggest one in south wales. I can only think they gave them to an apprentice to work on.

Want them done right next time as its getting close to the Welsh social ;-)
