Today I.....

Hi Martin.

My car is a 1.4 petrol. Dont know if that makes a difference . When i got the new battery all was good for 3-4 days then it was flat , no dash lights , central locking ect. ???

Local garage has checked the for the usual drain problems but cant find the source.

Is it worth buying a used CCU unit and swap them over ....

Cheers

Are you sure that the alarm is not being triggered overnight. A failing CCCU and / or a service flap that is not fully closed can result in the "very quiet" alarm running all night.

The other trick is to disconnect the positive lead from the battery and then touch it back on looking for a very small spark (do it in a well ventilated room with no fuel fumes!!!)

It should only be a very small spark, anything more and you have something draining it. Most common tends to be an aftermarket radio, or a failed alternator (they can become the equivalent of a motor if the diode fails)

The other option is to take the positive connector off, use a multimeter to check the drain and then start pulling fuses one at a time until it drops.

Hi
Not the same problem as mine then. My drain was too slow to drain in 4 days, but it was always draining if engine not charging.
Yours might be a sporadic (hopefully not) problem of a higher capacity drain :( ? Would not swap anything at this stage try and find it with a multimeter if you,re into electrical diy, at battery to see if it is there and then disconnecting things one by one to eliminate them. Start with alternator connection as Steve says, then fuses one by one. May need a lot of patience.

I'm obviously a slow coach !

Hi Martin,

Not at all.

Now I have a new project I seem to have got my "Mojo" back and so I am a bit "full on" at the moment.

I do worry that I get carried away on here and I sometimes can be TOO active and not give others the chance to get a word in.

I will ease off again to give others a chance (or should I say I will TRY to)

LOL

You don’t need to spend a lot on one. Even the cheap ones should be ok for the occasional issue like this.

Today I said goodbye to the White TDI 90 (not factory white, unlike Vonnies stunning factory white one)

It was a really good car and I will miss it, but it enables me to take on the Violet FSI ex show car and do it properly.

I also picked up the two sets of red leather from BullBitz. He is not cheap, but he was very helpful.

Today I... fitted the mudguards which I received from member ninjaA2.

Today I Drove from North London to Winston Leicester to photograph local landmarks for an on going project for a Spanish bank i've been doing all summer. Travelled in style in a lovely A3 1.6 FSI 6 hour round trip meant i was just about ready for a few beers! Not before Spray painting ping pong balls for girlfriends halloween costume.

Today I'm finishing off redecorating my home office - been on the to-do list for years. One nice job was to hang up my Audi A2 club event at Audi Driver International in 2006 - so long ago, how time flies!

The top photo is at Castle Coombe car park - 21 A2s in the line-up. The bottom centre photo from the Audi Driver magazine happens to have my A2 at the front.

Nice assembly of pictures Alan. I can just make out my former A2 bottom left - Akoya silver on the right and myself in the line-up. Seems much less than 11 years ago...

It certainly won't harm, I am not sure it will actually make any noticeable difference though but no harm in trying it.

not a bad idea at all.
