Today I.....

Today I added new Snow Tires on my A2, to prepare for the Norwegian Winter. I went for the unstudded one, for less noise and more comfort.

The jury is still out on the black rims, though! 🤨

Today i tried to to change over the rear drums on my a2. After 5 hours i claimed defeat. I did not managed to change a complete wheel. So put it back best i could and drove 100 miles home and take it to a garage first thing. #notamechanic

If it was like one of mine it was the original drum 20 years old at 128,000 miles also the cylinder was leaking. All new now.

Today my A2 passed another MOT with 2 advisories:
  1. Slight judder when braking hard. I had not noticed that. Tester said it could be warped disks or pads. The stone guards need changing so I will probably change the disks and pads and maybe more next spring. They were Mintex disks & pads fitted in 2010. Still plenty of wear in the pads left.

  2. Wear on inner edges of both rear tyres. - I had just moved these from the front as I saw the wear and the rears had more tread. Also had a recent front wheel alignment - too many potholes in Wiltshire. Alignment showed the camber is out on right side so that may account for one wheel. Not much can be done about that I think. Will look for softer tyres on the rears next year. Currently have Toyo Proxes T1-R 185/50/16V Tyres.
Did wash, wax and vacuum at the weekend so they can't fail it for being dirty ;) and they show more respect like using seat protection covers.

Did you release the brake shoe adjusters? Could be a reason why the drums refused to move.

I see this suitable oil is on offer with a voucher code.
£44 for 20 litres makes for some very cheap maintenance.

Yep that’s the one identified in the spotted thread - that’s 4 oil changes at £11 each plus the filter (with plenty left each time for topping up)!

I find mine uses no oil between services an at 4 litres per service that means you get 5 services from the 20 litres obviously if you have to tip up between services then you will be at 4 services per 20 litre

I bought the same at £47 for the 20 litres a couple of weeks ago. It looks like the discount code is more generous at the moment

Cheers

… picked up A2LLU from WOM in Staffordshire after a good amount of TLC.

My 6-speed A2 Cars gearbox had started to fall apart a while back and was now down to 4 gears and pretty noisy as well. I’d had an oil pump chain refurb kit in the house for at least a couple of years and the car was ready for a cam belt. I’d felt for a while like I was driving a time bomb!

All sorted now. Gearbox replaced with 45k miler KFK gearbox (5 speed, same family as JDD) and new clutch, oil pump chain and guides replaced, cambelt and service.

Thanks to Rob and Marcus, the old girl is back to her old self!. Can’t thank them enough for their work and sensible guidance.

Today did the weekly shop at Sainsburys. Car park fairly full. The parking spaces are small for an A2 but came back to this:

At least they parked the other way round and hopefully no passengers. What's the bet the A2 has more room inside than that RR!

PS I know it's good practice to back into a space but as I bad back and heavy shopping then needs must.

Postie just arrived with a parcel from LLParts. Good that LLParts are happy to dispatch to the UK for getting parts no longer stocked by Audi UK.

Looks like the part no.s are for a Seat car (stamped VW AG 6R0615311A/6R0615312A) but all the databases say it's OK for an A2 6Q0615311D/6Q0615312D. Made in Spain and marked VG AG

Slight burs to some edges. I shall spray them with Halfords Heavy Duty PU Lacquer before fitting.

Bought via ebay for £36.36 inc. p&p

Edit: Parts are forward from Germany to UK and then dispatched by Royal Mail, so no additional vat or duty

KFK, new one to me, good stuff!

And then some!
I have seen similar damage ti caravans, (aluminium like the A2), in mainland Europe. Some manufacturers now offer fibreglass roofs, as an option. Caravan used as long term homes, are often fitted with small mesh netting, about 100mm above the actual roof, to deflect hail.
Mac.
